Big announcement today!
We've decided that, rather than making a 100% identical port of City of Heroes and then expanding from there, we're going to be making some tweaks and deviations from day one. Think of it as APR (though we'll be updating that name; more on that later) taking place in one of Portal Corp's many alternate universes, this one almost identical to the Prime Earth that we're used to.
A little history on our decision making process. You may remember this, from a post I made earlier:
For example, one of our more recent discussions was about the warehouse district in the southwest corner of Atlas Park. The buildings are poorly constructed, and if ported directly into APR as-is, they'd cause performance issues, so she's got to go through and rebuild them. Thing is, there's no way to really make a useful or interesting post out of it.
Let's just say that those warehouses are so frustrating that, in a moment of silliness, Cailyn deleted them and replaced them with a giant Shivan meteor.
This led to a bit of discussion, and we came up with a Marvel-style "What If?" scenario: What If The Shivan Attack Had Hit Atlas Park Instead?
After a bit of digging, we discovered that Echo: Galaxy City doesn't have any assets that are quite as brutal as Atlas Park's, and that cemented the decision to mix things up.
At launch, all instances of Atlas Park will be removed. The Lore will be updated to state that Atlas Park was the target of the Shivan Attacks, and the tutorial dialog will be tweaked to reflect this. It makes sense, after all: Atlas Park was a much bigger population center; why would the Battalion send the Shivans to attack the relatively low-population Galaxy City?
The new starting zone will be a revamped Galaxy City, which will basically be the same, but we'll be adding a copy of City Hall to the zone, and updating the low-level missions appropriately for the new zone.
All instanced versions of Atlas Park, such as the ones in the Ouroboros introduction, the Lord Recluse Strike Force, or the Usurper badge mission, will get all-new maps of Galaxy City, modified as appropriate for their respective missions and Task Forces!
By now, you're probably all thinking the same thing that we did: "If we're destroying Atlas Park, and completely removing it, how can we still call ourselves Atlas Park Revival?" Well, we realized that, by adding Galaxy City back, we're literally doing everything but Atlas Park.
And so our new name was coined. Welcome, everyone, to Everything But Atlas Park Revival
, or EBAPR
Enjoy the holiday today, and we hope to bring you more new and exciting news Soon™!
